Pictures For My Newspaper

These are pictures i will be including in my newspaper. I was going to use them as my front cover but i decided against that in the end as these do not seem to fit with other Newspaper main photos. Instead I will use them inside my newspaper as photos people have sent in from the snow.

My Colour Scheme

I picked these blues as my colour scheme, I understood that it is common to have these colours on newspapers but that is why I have chosen them as people will associate my newspaper with others.

Choosing Font for the Newspaper Title

I did a survey on what fonts would best fit my title. I selected four different types and asked a range of seven people which they preferred. 

These are the four fonts. 

5 out of the 7 of the people voted for the top font: GoudyMedieval 
And 1 went for the second font: Times and Times again 
And the last person went for the last font: Lucida Calligraphy 


I think from these results that I will be going for the GoudyMedieval font due to the majority of vote.

Choosing Newspaper Title

I have chosen to go for 'Southsea Journal' as my newspaper title, now I will be looking at which font I prefer the most to fit with my newspaper.

My chosen layout

This is my chosen layout for my newspaper. 

I picked this layout due to the fact of its simplicity but still includes everything i would need on my front cover. i believe the more simple I keep it the more I can do with it. 

Testing different fonts

I tested three different fonts on each of my newspaper name ideas and this is how they came out: 

Beginning to Produce my Newspaper

Now that I am beginning to produce my newspaper I have to come up with a newspaper title. As my newspaper will be for the residents of Portsmouth I will try and include either the name or a connotation of Portsmouth in the title. I used this website as inspiration.


Here are a few ideas I have thought about using:


Portsmouth Post
Portsmouth Times
Southsea Spectator 
Southsea Journal
Portsmouth Herald


I am going to make a few different logos for each of these and see which one fits and looks best.
